Dangers you have in autumn

As beautiful as autumn can be, it is also treacherous. In addition to slippery leaves and poor visibility due to fog, increased deer traffic and the increasingly early onset of dusk can become a hazard. Find out what you need to watch out for when you're out and about by car in the fall.

Earlier onset of twilight

The days get shorter again very quickly from September onwards and it doesn't take long before it's already dark at 5:00 pm. Now it is especially important that you are attentive while driving. Not every pedestrian or cyclist is adapted to the poor visibility and accordingly equipped with conspicuous clothing and lighting. Especially during rush hour traffic, when a lot of people are on the road at once, you should be especially attentive.

Fog

Especially sudden fog banks are not uncommon in autumn. You should always drive adapted in fog and keep in mind that you can encounter a danger in dense fog. So always be ready to brake and adjust your speed.

If visibility is less than 50 meters, you should turn on the rear fog light. But don't forget to switch them off again when you've driven out of the fog, as it dazzles other road users. Also, you may not drive more than 50 km/h when it is on.

Other tips

It's best to always turn on your lights in the fall and winter so you're easier to see.

Replace your wiper blades when they no longer wipe the windows well so you always have a good view. It's important to keep your windows clean, especially when the sun is lower in the fall and blinding you. So also remember to make sure your wiper water is topped off (preferably with antifreeze already).

Put a microfiber cloth in your car so you can clean the fogged windows. If your car has air conditioning, you should turn it on, as this will help the moisture on the window to disappear more quickly.
